# Connect Gmail or Google Workspace

Connect your Gmail or Google Workspace mailbox and Retily reads new email from it as tickets, and sends your team’s replies from your own address.

Last updated October 28, 2026

## 1. Make an app password

Retily signs in to Gmail with an app password, not your normal password. Google allows app passwords only when 2-Step Verification is on.

1. Turn on 2-Step Verification in your Google Account, if it isn’t yet.
2. Open myaccount.google.com/apppasswords and sign in.
3. Create an app password and copy it.

### No App passwords option?

Google may not offer it when 2-Step Verification uses security keys only, on accounts with Advanced Protection, and on work, school or other organization accounts. On Google Workspace, forwarding (below) works without one.

## 2. Connect it in Retily

1. In the app, go to **Settings › Email**.
2. Under **Email Provider**, choose **Gmail / Google Workspace**. The server settings fill in by themselves.
3. Enter the **Email Address**, and paste the app password in **Password**.
4. Optional: a **From Name**, such as “Acme Support”. Empty means your workspace name.
5. Click **Test & Save**. Retily signs in, sends a test email to that mailbox and checks it can read the inbox. It saves only when both work.

Gmail has IMAP on for every account, so there is nothing to turn on there. Once connected, Retily reads unread email from the last 14 days, turns it into tickets and marks it read. New mail arrives within seconds.

## If it doesn’t connect

**Incorrect email or password**

Use the app password, not your normal Google password. Check the address is the mailbox the app password belongs to.

**Connection failed**

Check the address and the provider you chose, then try again.

## Or forward instead

Every workspace has its own Retily address, shown in **Settings › Email**. Forward your support address to it and each email becomes a ticket; replies then go out from the Retily address. On Google Workspace, an admin can do it for the whole domain: in the Admin console, **Apps › Google Workspace › Gmail › Routing**, add a rule that also delivers to your Retily address.

- Send a test email to your support address from another account. It should arrive in **Tickets**.
