Install on Shopify

The chat widget is one line of code. On Shopify it goes into your theme’s main layout file, so it shows on every page of your store.

1. Copy your code in Retily

  1. In the app, go to Settings › Widget.
  2. Next to your chat widget, click Install.
  3. Click Copy code.

2. Paste it into your theme

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store.
  2. Next to the theme your store uses, click the … button, then Edit code.
  3. In the layout folder, open theme.liquid.
  4. Paste your code just before </body>, near the end of the file.
  5. Click Save.

Before you edit

Shopify suggests duplicating your theme first, so you have a copy to go back to. A theme you are only trying can’t be edited until you buy it.

3. Check it

  1. Back in Retily’s install dialog, under Check your site, type your store’s address.
  2. Click Check installation. Installed means the code is on that page.

After a theme update

Code you add to a theme stays with that theme. When you update it, or switch to a new one, the updated copy doesn’t have your changes: paste the code into its theme.liquid again, then check again.

  • The first time the widget loads on your store, the Get started step on Home ticks itself.
  • Still no chat? Look at the widget’s Allowed Domains, as Install the chat widget explains.
